The Process

I use all kinds of special tools and glass to make my jewelry. Each piece is hand crafted and made with a specific design in mind, however once it leaves my hands and enters the kiln it’s out of my control and the kiln takes over and slumps and shapes and polishes the piece to give it its final look.

I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I see the results and all the wondrous colors that are revealed.

The glass goes through quite a few stages before it becomes a beautiful piece of jewelry.

First I decide what design I want to do and the colors of glass I want to use for my product. Secondly I cut each piece of glass and use a special grinder to create the shapes I’m wanting for the piece. Then I hand wash each piece to remove any dirt or film. Then I lightly glue the pieces in place and finally it goes into my kiln where it’s fired for at least a couple of hours.

The heat from the kiln will start to slump the glass and turn it almost to liquid at which point it will start to anneal. If you were to see it at this stage it would be difficult to see what it looks like it has an orange glow to it and you can barely distinguish any kind of colors or shape. Once it’s at this stage I turn the kiln down and let it cool in which time it will start to harden and take it’s final form. Once the kiln is completely cooled the final result is revealed and you get the finished product that you see on my sample pages.
